April 14, 1969 Montreal: Visiting St. Louis scored four runs in the top of the third inning to break a 1-1 tie. Former Cardinal and Expos starter Larry Jaster gave up a home run to his opposing number, Nelson Briles to lead off the inning. Lou Brock then followed with a double. Flood then bunted Brock to third. After Pinson walked to put runners at the corners, it looked like Jaster was going to work his way out of the jam as he induced Joe Torre to pop out to firstbaseman Bailey for the second out of the inning. But a Mike Shannon home run over the left center filed fence gave St. Louis a 5-1 lead.
That would be all Briles would need as he went the distance in the 6-2 Cardinal victory. The St. Louis righty gave up only two runs on five hits with one walk and six strikeouts. Expos left fielder Mack Jones provided most of the little offense Montreal could muster going 2 for 4 with his first home run of the season.
