Game 1,
Joe Niekro went the distance but yielded 2 runs in the top of the ninth inning to knot the game at 3. However, in the bottom of the inning, San Diego struck for the game winner on a bases loaded walk to catcher Chris Cannizzaro. Niekro moves to 1-0 and the loss was credited to Jim Brewer 0-1. Padres 4....Dodgers 3.
Game 2,
Nate Colbert hit a 2 run homerun, his second of the year, during the 2nd inning to lead the Padres to a quick 2 game sweep against the visitors from up the the freeway. Al Santorini threw wonderfully as he improved to 2-0. Santorini did require relief help from Tommie Sisk to preserve the victory. Joe Moeller(0-1) got the loss. Padres 4...Dodgers 2.
