KC won the battle of the expansion clubs today thanks to a 5 hit complete game shutout from Roger Nelson. Mike Fiore (2-4) scored 2 and knocked in one with a solo blast in the 7th.
Twins 9, Pilots 4
Chance vs G.Bell
“Twins Ding Pilots”
The Twins chased Gary "Ding Dong" Bell from the hill by tagging him for 5 runs in the top of the second. Replacement John Morris gave up 3 more before the bleeding stopped. Dean Chance tried to go the distance, but gave up 3 runs in the 9th without getting an out. Joe Grzenda finished it up easily. Slugger Harmon Killebrew hit two homers in the 2nd off of two different pitchers. Reese, Cardenas and Uhlaender also went deep. Former Twins Don Mincher and Rich Rollins hit homers off of Chance in the 9th, but the game was long since over by then.
