Johnson powers Reds past Expos

May 9, 1969 Montreal:  Alex Johnson slammed three home runs as Cincinnati defeated the Expos 8-2 in the opening game of a two game set.  The Reds struck first as Johnson hit a two run homer and Tony Perez followed with a solo shot in the first.  Montreal cut the lead to one as Mack Jones went deep in the bottom of the inning with a man on.  However, that is as close as the Expos got.  Johnson added another two run homer in the top of the 5th to give Cincinnati a 5-2 lead.  The Reds moody leftfielder finished 4 for 5 on the day with the 3 home runs and 5 RBI.

Tony Cloninger (2-2) went the distance for the Reds allowing only 2 runs on 5 hits and a walk with 6 strikeouts.  He also contributed a solo homer.  Mudcat Grant (2-3) suffered the setback.
