Frank Fernandez 4 Homer Day Knots Series 2-2

GAME ONE – Rich Reese doubled home Ted Uhlaender in the 10th to lift Minnesota past New York 4-3. Cesar Tovar (3) led off the game with a homer as one of his 3 hits. Leo Cardenas also had 3 safeties. Horace Clarke (1) and Joe Pepitone (11) went deep for the Yanks. Ron Perranoski (2-3) bested Al Downing (0-2) in a relief battle.

GAME TWO – Ted Uhlaender banged out four hits and Jim Kaat (5-4) tossed 8 shutout innings as Minnesota wins easily, 4-0.

GAME THREE – Frank Fernandez (4,5) blasted 2 home runs, doubled and drove in 3 runs to help the Yankees take the opener of a DH, 6-1. Tom Tresh and Jim Lyttle added 3 hits apiece. Fritz Peterson (6-3) went the distance for the win.


GAME FOUR – Bronx Bombers complete the DH sweep and even the series as Fernandez (6,7) finishes a 4-homer day with two more bombs. He drove in all 5 runs in a 5-1 Yankees win. Stan Bahnsen (2-7) out-dueled Dick Woodson (1-3) on the mound.
