ChiSox Nearly Sweep Royals

GAME ONE – Bobby Knoop’s 2-run double in the 6th was the difference maker as Chicago took the series opener from Kansas City, 4-1. Carlos May (20) started things for the ChiSox in the 1st with his 20th blast of the year. Tommy John (6-11), Gary “Ding Dong” Bell and Wilbur Wood (13) did the chucking.

GAME TWO – Only 4 of the White Sox 12 runs were earned, nevertheless, they rack up the 12-7 win. May (21) blasted a 3-run HR and Tommy McGraw drove in 4 more with 3 hits to power the offense. Billy Wynne (3-1) was the beneficiary on the mound.

GAME THREE – Ken Berry and Knoop almost single-handedly handled the offense for the Pale Hose in an 8-3 win. Berry (4) blasted a grand slam in the 7th. Knoop doubled in a pair and walked in another. Gary Peters (9-7) went the full 9 in the first game of this DH before the All-Star Break.

GAME FOUR – Lou Piniella drove in 3 runs with a 2-run triple and sac fly to help KC split the DH and salvage a win in the series, 5-3. Buck Martinez (1) added a long solo homer to the mix. May (22) finished a great first half for the White Sox with another round tripper.
