Bums/Cards Split Early August Tilt

GAME ONE – Steve Carlton (7-4) pitched 8 innings and banged out 3 hits and 2 RBI to lead St. Louis to a 10-2 win over Los Angeles. Lou Brock (3) and Julian Javier (7) each homered and drove in 3 apiece.

GAME TWO – St. Louis forced extra innings when Phil Gagliano came through with a 2-out PH RBI single to tie it 5-5. But 3 singles (Willie Davis, Andy Kosco, Tom Haller) and a SF (Bill Sadakis) plated a pair for LA in the T10 and the Dodgers won 7-5.

GAME THREE – Claude Osteen (16-7) fired a complete-game, 2-hitter as the Dodgers won 2-0. Ted Sizemore (3) had 2 hits, including a home run to lead the Bums offense.

GAME FOUR – Vada Pinson (11) rocked a 2-run homer in the 6th and the Redbirds split the series with a 4-2 victory. Nelson Briles (10-10) evened his season mark. Haller collected 3 hits to lead the Bums.
