GAME ONE – PH Woodie Held (1) smacked a Jack Hamilton (0-4) fastball over the
RF wall for a 5-3 walk-off winner for the White Sox. Bill Melton’s (10) 3-run blast in the 2nd gave the Pale
Hose their other runs. Cal Peterson’s
1st inning double plated a pair for the Indians, The tying run was
an unearned run in the 8th.
GAME TWO – A wild
and windy day on the South Side of Chicago saw the Sox blow away the Tribe
22-8. Five baseballs went flying out on a 30+ mph jet stream to RF. Tommy McGraw, Luis Aparicio and Gail Hopkins
went deep for the Sox. Ray Fosse and
Ken Harrelson had dingers for Cleveland .
McGraw and Pete Ward banged out 4 hits each to lead a 20-hit ChiSox attack. Carlos May (5) and Buddy Bradford (4) had 9 RBI between them. Chicago
had 3 2B, 3 3B and 3 HR. The home club put crooked numbers on the board in
every inning except the 2nd and 3rd when they were
blanked. Lou Klimchock had 4 of the
visitors’ 16 hits. Wilbur Wood (1-3)
earned his first win of the year with 3 1/3 innings of relief.
GAME THREE – The
White Sox complete the sweep as McGraw
singled home Bobby Knoop (3 hits) in
the 10th for a 5-4 victory. Cisco
Carlos (2-1) got the win in relief. Hawk
Harrelson homered for the Tribe.
