Billy Pierce and Bob Friend both throw complete games, with Pierce striking out eight and Friend allowing 13 hits but keeping Pittsburgh in the game. Pittsburgh gets two in the second on Don Hoak's single and an error, but Chicago comes right back with three in the bottom of the frame, keyed by Gene Freese's two-run double.

But Pittsburgh gets two more in the top of the third on a two-run homer from Roberto Clemente to take a 4-3 lead. Again, Chicago comes right back in the bottom of the inning, tying the game on Sievers' fourth homer of the series in five games.

Things then got interesting, as the score remained 4-4 until the bottom of the ninth. But with Friend still on, Luis Aparicio scorched a single, stole second and then came home on a walkoff hit from Nellie Fox for the 5-4 White Sox victory.
